Taste Test – Fufu

Fufu is a traditional West African side dish that is a starchy dense dough made from ground plantains. It is used to scoop up food much like Naan bread in Indian cuisine.

Alex has always been a fan of Scarpetta so he quite liked this West African version of the Italian practice. The flavor of the Fufu was mild and a perfect vehicle for absorbing the sauce. 8 out of 10

Coin and Currency Club – Burundi

The Coin and Currency Club selection for the month is the central African country of Burundi. Burundi is a land-locked country in the Great Rift valley of Africa. It is bordered by Rwanda to the north, Tanzania to the east and southeast, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west; Lake Tanganyika lies along its southwestern border. The capital cities are Gitega and Bujumbura, the latter being the country’s largest city.

Alex was able to locate the country to East/Central Africa but did not identify Burundi

Taste Test – Mavuna Harvest Dried Organic Pineapple

While serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in a tiny village in Kenya called Miti Mingi, Phil Hughes was surprised to learn that on average farmers only sell up to a third of their harvest. The vast majority of fruit remains unsold and is left behind to rot. After hearing that drying fruit opens new markets, creates jobs for the local community, and extends the life and prosperity of the food supply, Phil was inspired to create Mavuno Harvest. The pineapples are sourced from Ghana and Tanzania. This is the third dried fruit product we have taste tested from Mavuna the others being mango and banana. This is the best of the three.

All of the dried fruit products from Mavuna are unsweetened but the natural sweetness of the pineapple make this the best as a straight snack 8 out of 10

These dried bananas are unsweetened with not other ingredients other than banana. They have a pronounced banana flavor. Good addition to trail mix not great alone 6 out of 10
