About Rita

As far as I can remember I have always dreamed of traveling the world. As a teenager, backpacking through Europe seemed like the coolest thing I could do “when I grow up”, and by holding a Portuguese passport (and being a citizen of the European Union) I could travel, study work and live in any of the member countries of the EU. Needless to say, that’s not what happened…

Born and raised in southern Brazil, I didn’t fit the laid back, old fashioned “get married, obey your husband and start a family” mold that was expected from me. Looking back, I’ve always been a Liberal struggling to fit in a religious, conservative culture. That is until I broke the mold and moved to United States after college, which didn’t go very well with my devoted catholic mother.

Looking back, I wouldn’t have done anything different. Moving to USA has given me the financial means to realize my dream of traveling the world before realizing the biggest dream of my life, when I gave birth to my son Alex, and, with my husband Joe, I realized the one thing I had not dreamed of, which is having a wonderful family.
