The Tuckaway Tavern in Raymond is a combination butchery and tavern with high quality meat available at both locations. There are separate entrances for the tavern and butchery.

The tavern is always busy and parking can at times be problematic if you just want to pick up some neat for dinner but it is well worth it. There is a large selection of meat available with great cuts of beef and many different varieties of sausage and marinated chicken.

There is also a nice selection of gourmet products like deserts, condiments and cheese.
The tavern as I mentioned and you will have to wait for a seat on most nights. A small menu features some great steaks and a few seafood options.
The meal starts off with some fresh potato chips and tortilla chips. A nice change from the typical bread serving.

The fries and slaw were top notch. and my lobster Mac n’ Cheese had quite a few lobster claws mixed into the creamy pasta.

If you are in the mood for good beef this is a nice suburban steak house. The butchery is a great place to pick up some quality meat for that special home cooked meal. We are lucky to have this place in our town.

General John Stark’s Expedition to Bennington – August 1777 – Historic Marker (Charlestown, New Hampshire)

General John Stark along with Colonel Seth Warner of the Green Mountain Boys defeated British General John Burgoyne at the Battle of Bennington in 1777. It was during this battle that General Stark made the famous remark “They are ours , or this night Molly Stark sleeps alone.” This historic marker in Charlestown, New Hampshire commemorates the expedition.

General Burgoyne was cutting a swath through New York state with the purpose of cutting off New England from the rest of the colonies. He sent forces to Bennington to capture much needed supplies. Stark and Warner met Burgoyne and won a tactical victory.
The battle is memorialized with an impressive monument and statue of General Stark.

The American victory in Bennington was instrumental in the subsequent victory at Saratoga, considered to be the turning point of the war.

Restaurant Review – The Community Oven (Epping, New Hampshire)

The Community Oven in Epping has taken over the location of the former 900 degrees pizzeria. The restaurant is still your typical wood fired type of pizza restaurant utilizing the central oven as a restaurant centerpiece. The pizzaiolo at the Oven is highly skilled and he engaged Alex with his antics.

The spinach and artichoke dip was very good,

Restaurant Review – Nick’s Place (Raymond, New Hampshire)

Nick’s Place in Raymond is a casual counter service restaurant with an eclectic menu of fried seafood, subs, pizza and some Greek specialities. The menu is very large with quite a few options. They have a smallish sit-down area but also do a big takeout business. They are one of the few establishments that do home delivery in the area,

You order food at the counter and then take a seat. When we were there the food was brought over to the table when it was ready.
Rita had steak tips which were good but not exceptional.

We both thought the onion rings were very good with the fries being typical frozen variety.

I had scallops and clam strips which were good but not what I would call “seacoast fresh.”

The convenience of having home delivery living out in the deep suburbs like we do make this a good option for us when we need something for supper quickly. We have found the delivery times to be very responsive averaging 30-45 minutes.

We have sampled several different pizzas and they have been good. Typical Greek style, a little greasy with a soggy thin crust.

New photo by Wanderlust Family Adventure / Google Photos

The wings were a wing-ding type nothing special.
The chicken fingers were whole white meat breaded but a bit dry.

New photo by Wanderlust Family Adventure / Google Photos

The subs were OK typical sub shop.
