Behind the scenes feature on the monster effects

This was a good little movie. The beginning of the film finds a group of young delinquents seen mugging Jodie Whittaker’s character closely followed by the crash of an alien in front of them. The leader of the gang kills the alien and attempts to find a means of exploiting the body. Unknown to him the alien covered him in pheromones which cause the male aliens to track and attack the group. The kids start off as unsympathetic but as you learn more about their lives and situations you begin to warm to them especially after they team up with Jodie to escape the attacking aliens. The combination of social commentary and some nice horror tropes make this a very enjoyable watch – 9 out of 10.

Doctor Who Extended Media Review – P.R.O.B.E. Case Files Volume 1

P.R.O.B.E. was a direct to video series which started out starring Caroline John, playing an older version of television’s Third Doctor companion Doctor Liz Shaw, and featuring her adventures working at the Preternatural Research Bureau, investigating unusual phenomena. This volume of case files was released in 2021 and features Giles the head of P.R.O.B.E. taking over from Liz Shaw.

This is an interesting continuation of the P.R.O.B.E. saga using narration by Bill Baggs as Giles telling various stories through the years. The format is limiting with just the static narration interspersed with some artwork and graphic design. Some of the stories are well told especially where Giles falls in love with an alien. There is a little bit of location filming towards the end of the DVD and hopefully this can be expanded on in the future. 6.5 out of 10.

Doctor Who Extended Media Review – The Art of the Audio Adventures by Mark Wright

The Art of the Audio Adventures by Mark Wright is a lavish coffee table book with covers from many of Big Finish‘s audio plays.

This is a great art book covering 100 of Big Finish’s most iconic covers. The write ups for each cover are informative and concise and the full page panels for each cover amply display the fantastic art and graphic design. The only drawback is the lack of other properties in the Whoniverse with only one Bernice Summerfield cover featured. 10 out of 10.
