Doctor Who Extended Media Review – Attack the Block DVD

Attack the Block was a 2011 horror movie starring a 29 year old Jodie Whittaker and written and directed by Joe Cornish. You can see our video review on the Whovian Academy YouTube channel.

Jodie Whittaker

Behind the scenes feature on the monster effects

This was a good little movie. The beginning of the film finds a group of young delinquents seen mugging Jodie Whittaker’s character closely followed by the crash of an alien in front of them. The leader of the gang kills the alien and attempts to find a means of exploiting the body. Unknown to him the alien covered him in pheromones which cause the male aliens to track and attack the group. The kids start off as unsympathetic but as you learn more about their lives and situations you begin to warm to them especially after they team up with Jodie to escape the attacking aliens. The combination of social commentary and some nice horror tropes make this a very enjoyable watch – 9 out of 10.
