A town pound is an enclosure used to corral loose animals and hold them until their owners come to collect them usually for a fee. During the colonial and post revolutionary war periods these were quite common in the New England area. The New Durham Town Pound is located next to the New Durham Meetinghouse Historic Site in New Durham, New Hampshire.
The meeting house is intact and has been refurbished to appear as it did when it was built in 1770.
This makes an interesting afternoon visit as in addition to the historical structures there is a short hiking trail that provides a nice place for a leisurely stroll.
