Directly across the street from The MS Mount Washington cruise terminal and the Alton Bay docks is Pop’s Clam Shell seafood restaurant.

The Yelp review for this establishment was four stars so we had high hopes. The ambiance of the area was wonderful with the views of the bay and the boats entering and leaving the docks. The restaurant had an outdoor seating area on the roof but we chose to park at the docks and eat while looking out towards the bay.

When the food arrived the portion size was enormous and we started to dig in. We were here during the pandemic of 2020 so I am hesitant to comment on the freshness of the fish but I have to say both Rita and I had haddock and it was extremely stale and rubbery. Alex had clam strips and they were also very chewy. I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and say the staleness was due to difficulty in getting fresh product during the pandemic but it was one of the most disappointing seafood meals I have had in a long time.
Rita and I both had fish and chips.
