Eastport Breakwater – Eastport, Maine

The Eastport Breakwater Pier was built by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1962. A 200″ section of the pier collapsed in 2014 and was subsequently rebuilt.

During mid August the mackerel start to run and the breakwater is lined with fishermen. My parents retired to nearby Pembroke, Maine and my father would spend many a morning on the pier fishing. We developed many recipes to take care of his frequent catches. We would bake, can, pickel, grill and make jerky from the fish.

No stop would be complete to the breakwater without a stop at Rosie’s Hot Dog Stand at the foot of the pier. Some of the best tasting dogs you will ever have.
