Doctor Who Extended Media Review – Doomwatch: Winter Angel

Doomwatch was one of the best hard science fiction television series ever produced. This 1999 TV movie Winter Angel was a continuation of the 1970 series. The connection to the Doctor Who Universe is when Brigadier Alastair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart in the audio adventure Minuet in Hell was sent on an assignment for them. When a PSI machine was developed Doomwatch feared that the machine could alter people’s memories, The United Nations sent The Brigadier to America to investigate its possible misuse where in met up with the Eighth Doctor.

Disappointing follow-up to the wonderful series

The movie sees an aged Dr. Spencer Quist (not played by original actor the late John Paul) becoming involved with a disaster nuclear waste and artificial black holes. It was very disappointing that no one from the original cast made even a cameo in the film. A disappointing and unsatisfactory denouement to the original series 5 out of 10.
