The Polystyle TV Comic Annual was rebranded the Mighty TV Comic Annual for 1978. It contained a Doctor Who short story “Master of the Black Hole” and a five page strip “Jackals of Space.” The first story takes place in the gap between The TV stories Deadly Assassin and Face of Evil while the comic strip with Sarah Jane occurs right before her departure in The Hand of Fear. In addition to the usual humor and funny animal strips there is a Star Trek strip as well
The four page prose story with illustrations by John Canning is an insipid little piece concerning a time loop and an encounter with the Master of a black hole. No worries, by the end of the story it turns out to all be a dream by the Doctor!! 5 out of 10.
The second Doctor Who story is a five page comic strip “Jackals of Space.” In this story The Doctor and a cute but poor rendered likeness of Sarah Jane receive a mayday from a space ship attacked by space pirates. They are able to thwart the pirates and protect the spaceways. I found both of the stories in this annual to not be as much fun as previous Polystyle or Doctor Who annuals 5 out of 10.
