Taste Test – Fiji Water

Ever since I was a child my go to drink has always been water, cold with ice when necessary. Know that I am old enough to have grown up without bottled water being commonplace in my hometown. When very young on vacation I would sample spring water or water from a mountain stream (this was before the realization of the danger of Giardia) and reveled in its clear clean taste. I first experienced bottled spring water in France on a trip to Europe in the 1980s when I saw Evian which to this day is my favorite. I have had Fiji water before but I wanted to try it again with a more critical eye.

A good clear taste but not without a strong mineral element smooth and clean tasting – one serious drawback is the small spout which makes for an unpleasant drinking experience

Taste Test – Vegemite

Vegemite is a thick, dark brown Australian food spread made from leftover brewers’ yeast extract with various vegetable and spice additives. It was developed by Cyril Callister in Melbourne, Victoria in 1922. To Australian children this is the equivalent to peanut butter and jelly to American children. Alex and I like trying new foods so we ordered a bottle and tried it out.

Not looking very confident

First bite

No thank you, and I have to agree

Where’s the water?

Taste Test – Jerky.Com Kangaroo Jerky

Alex and I both enjoy jerky of all kinds and it is his go to snack for road trips or school outings. Along with the typical beef we have tried Elk, Bison and Deer. Seeing this kangaroo jerky on line from jerky.com we decided to try some. We also purchased some beef for comparison.

Beef first – good taste and texture

Lets try the kangaroo

Taste Test – Snack Crate (Hawaii)

We had been receiving Universal Yums for over a year but started to get repeat countries. Because of this we decided to cancel our subscription and subscribe instead to Snack Crate. After researching several options they seemed to have a different variety of countries available and have distinct regions as well. We got the largest box available which has from 18-22 snacks and upgraded with the drink option. The price of the box is quite a bit more than the Yum box ~$60 per month with the drink option. When signing up you can chose more salty of sweet options, we chose a 50/50 mixture. With a beginning subscription you can choose a region prior to receiving your monthly selections. We chose Hawaii since it is a place we have not received snacks from before.

Our ratings for the box
Alex 6.41 out of 10
favorite snack – Wow-wee Maui coffee chocolate bar & Luau BBQ rings

Joe 6.68 out of 10
favorite snack – Wow-wee Maui coffee chocolate bar

Overall our ratings compare closely to what we had been giving Universal Yum boxes. I like that there are more snacks in snack crate 22 compared to 20 and I like the added drink option. Looking forward to future boxes and some different places we haven’t been to.
