When Pigs Fly is an artisan bakery specializing in all manner of bread both savory and sweet. Their bread is sold in local New England supermarkets but it is nothing like the freshly baked product you can get at the store.
There is a tasting table available where you can sample a number of the breads available.
We like to get a number of different breads each time we go. We get a sourdough loaf for sandwiches, a savory bread that has olives, garlic, onions, spinach, etc and a sweet bread with things like apples, pumpkin, etc. The sweet bread is especially great for french toast. Do not worry about getting too much as you will invariably eat half of what you buy on the way home, it is that good! There is also a nice selection of olive oils available for purchase to dip any bread you have left when you get home.
Muffins, preserves and other embellishments for your bread are also available.
About a mile or so north on US Route 1 just past the Kittery Outlets this is a must stop when visiting southern Maine.
