Hotel Review – The Venetian (Las Vegas, Nevada)

For my first trip to Las Vegas I booked a room in the Venetian on the Las Vegas Strip on the site of the old Sands Hotel. Designed by KlingStubbins, the hotel tower contains 36 stories and rises 475 feet. The Venetian is owned and operated by Las Vegas Sands. The Venetian also serves as the seat of the corporate headquarters for its parent company.

I was not disappointed the hotel was conveniently located on the strip giving easy access to other nearby attractions. The suites were immaculate in two levels with a sitting area on a lover level from the beds and a luxurious bathroom.

Attractions at the hotel were Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum,

and the Canal Shops. The shops were set up as if on a Venetian canal complete with a false sky and gondolas plying the waterway.

I am not a gambler so I cannot comment on the casino. A bit more money than some of the other hotels on the strip but worth it in my opinion.

Hotel Review – Colonial Inn (Ellsworth, Maine)

After a day spent at nearby Acadia National Park we were lucky to be able to find accommodation in Ellsworth, Maine at the Colonial Inn during a busy peak summer visitation period.

We were surprised that the inn was a motel style accommodation as it did not seem like it from the booking web site.

the rooms were clean and comfortable and there was a nice indoor pool.

The mid level accommodation had clean comfortable rooms and nice amenities. It was conveniently located just off US Route 95.

A busy day of traveling and a tour of the Bangor waterfront left us only time for the pool and then bed.

Motel Review – Bluebird Motel (Machias, Maine)

On our road trip to Eastport Maine in early August 2019 we had trouble finding a last minute vacancy in the Eastport / Calais area. We finally found an opening at the Bluebird Motel in Machias. We had a full day planned and only needed a place to sleep so we booked it through Hotels.com.

The rooms were small but clean and well kept, if you are looking for a quick place to sleep you could do much worse. There is a microwave and refrigerator in each room.

If you are in Machias for any time be sure stop at Helen’s Restaurant for some of the best pie you will ever have.

Hotel Review – Embassy Suites by Hilton (Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada)

If you are looking for a great view of the falls from the Canadian side you can do no better then the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
As a gift for Rita’s mother we booked a room on the 17th floor overlooking the falls:

The view was spectacular and we all spent time by the window watching the falls especially at night when they were lit up with multi-colored lights.
The suite we had was spacious and the amenities of the hotel were what you would expect from Hilton.

We all enjoyed the special treat of our stay here.
