Lakefront Walk – Lake George Village, New York

The shoreline between Lake George and the village of Lake George is a pedestrian walkway perfect for a gentle stroll. In 1986, The State of New York awarded Lake George Village a Waterfront Revitalization grant, and construction of the first section of the Walkway along Beach Road began in 1988.Ten years later, another 650 feet of Walkway was completed, bringing the path up the Western Shore past restaurants, taverns, shops and boat rental businesses. The final stretch, completed in 2004, brought the walkway to Lower Amherst Street just north of Shepard Park.

Lake cruises are available from several locations along the walk

Including an old-fashioned steam ship

Some ships can be booked for weddings

If you prefer more stable rides than on a boat carriage rides are also available

Classic and exotic cars are also a common site

Lake George Cruise – Shoreline Cruises on the Adirondac

Shoreline Cruises out of Lake George, New York offers several different cruises on two boats. We booked the sunset cruise on the Adirondac. The cruise was about an hour long around Lake George. Unfortunately we timed the foliage wrong and booked about a week or two before peak foliage season in the Lake George area. The assessible part of the boat is on the first floor and included bathroom facilities. The snack bar is on an upper level and had only minimal refreshments catering towards mixed alcoholic drinks. No bottled water available.

Restaurant Review – Barnsider Smoke House (Lake George, New York)

The Barnsider Smoke House in Lake George is a BBQ restaurant just out of town on US Route 9. Rita ordered steak, Alex a burger and I got brisket. The food was acceptable but nothing to write home about. Good standard fare, Parking was around the back with stairs leading up to the restaurant, there was only one assessable spot in front of the building. The interior décor was rustic and warm.

The poutine appetizer was so good I forgot to take a picture

Alex said his burger was OK but he did not finish it!

Delmonico steak

Combo plate chopped beef brisket and grilled shrimp

LAKE GEORGE VILLAGE OKTOBERFEST – Lake George, New York

During the Lake George Village Oktoberfest, Canada Street is transformed into a European-style street fair. Entry to the event is free. Oktoberfest celebrates the Oktoberfest traditions, music, food, and beer. Oktoberfest features authentic German food like bratwurst and a Bier Garden with local handcrafted German-inspired ales and lagers from Lake George’s own Adirondack Brewery.

Prospect Mountain – Lake George, New York

Prospect Mountain in Lake George, New York is one of the most popular hiking spots in the area, but if you are not able to hike to the summit, you can still experience the amazing views. A short drive up Veterans Memorial Highway leads to scenic outlooks along the way and a large picnic area at the top of the mountain. There are three overlooks on the way up the mountain, the first two of which offer the best views. Once you reach the top there are two ways to the summit a foot path and a paved road. The foot path is extremely steep so I suggest the paved road to the top.
