Taste Test – Cheese of the Month Club (May 2023)

May’s Cheese of the Month Club shipment contained cheeses from Italy and Spain.

. San Simón da Costa from Spain is a smoked cow milk cheese. Rita likes smoked cheese 8 out of 10, I am not a fan 6 out of 10.

Fontina Val D’Aosta from Italy is an unpasteurized cow milk cheese with a slightly elastic texture. Rita and Joe 8 out of 10.

The Drunken Goat is a goat milk cheese from Spain. The cheese is bathed in Doble Pasta wine which does impart its flavor into the cheese. Joe and Rita 9 out of 10.

Taste Test – Surimi

Angulas are one of the supreme seafood delicacies of Spain. These mild, tender baby eels are carefully prepared in olive oil with a touch of red pepper. This product from Iberia is an imitation made from a white fish and flavored with eel. The authentic product is quite expensive even in Spain. We purchased this product hoping they would be OK. They were quite inexpensive from Amazon.

The taste was acceptable but nothing special with a fishy taste

Taste Test – Cheese of the Month Club (January 2023)

We re-started our subscription to the Cheese of the Month Club and the first shipment had some old favorites. The Emmentaler and Campo de Montalbán were both excellent eating cheese for a cheese plate and we enjoyed the goat cheese spread on crackers as a TV snack.

LaClare Chevre out of Wisconsin, USA is a semi-soft goat cheese perfect for crackers albeit a bit crumbly

(9 out of 10)

The Swiss Emmentaler is the typical “swiss” style cheese found in many markets. It is semi-firm and a perfect accompaniment to any cheese platter. (8 out of 10)

The Campo de Montalbán from Spain is a semi-hard cheese with a nice nuttiness and sweetness. (8 out of 10)

Taste Test – MunchPak (December 2022)

This is our first subscription box from MunchPak. The quality of the snacks were Okay but it was disappointing that the snacks were from many different locations rather than from a single country or region. There were more sweet snacks than savory than what we had seen in other subscription boxes. The box had one information card that described each snack and identified the country of origin. The box is acceptable if you just want a variety of snacks to sit down with in front of the TV but if you are planning on an educational element on different countries I would recommend another subscription service. Taste Test – Cornichons

Cornichons are small, tart, pickled cucumbers. They’re very tiny in size no bigger than your little finger at the largest. They may be sold under this name in both France and in English speaking countries, though some may just refer to them as small gherkins. These little pickles are often served as part of hors d’oeuvres or with other pickled vegetables. Since they’re typically finger food, they are great for any buffet setting, and their tart flavor is excellent when contrasted with sharp or mild cheese. They also go very well with a selection of mixed olives. These cornichons were from Spain. These were very enjoyable and made for a very nice snack.
