Buck Street Island Historic Site – Allenstown, New Hampshire

The industrial village of Bucks Street Island was a hub of manufacturing activity in the 18th and 19th century. Several dams led to many mills being started along the banks of the river and on the island. A fire in 1900 saw the last of the mills close and the site has not been rebuilt. The interpretive sign is just over the border in Allenstown, New Hampshire.

I am a great fan of these interpretive signs chronicling the history of the area and providing a nice guide to a leisurely exploration of the site.
There is a New Hampshire Trail Dawgs snowmobile trail adjacent to the sign and some pleasant woods and river to explore.
