Governor Benjamin Franklin Prescott House – Epping, New Hampshire

Benjamin Franklin Prescott was elected for the first of his two terms as New Hampshire’s governor in 1877. He came to prominence as the publisher of an anti-slavery newspaper and was heavily involved in local New Hampshire history. His house is located on Prescott Street in Epping, New Hampshire. Built in 1875 for Prescott it is an example of Second Empire architecture.

The property is privately owned and must be viewed from the street, please respect owners privacy. A short way down the road on Prescott street is the Lamprey River Forest which has some nice hiking down to the Lamprey River. The signpost and trail head are heavily overgrown keep a close watch to be sure you do not miss the pull off.

Lamprey River Floodplain / Lamprey River Wildlife Reserve – Epping, New Hampshire

In Epping, New Hampshire where NH Route 87 crosses over the Lamprey River there is a small well-maintained parking area allowing access to the river and a trail head leading into the Lamprey River Wildlife Reserve, a portion of the Lamprey River Floodplain.

The parking area provides good access to launch a canoe and the trail head is to the right between the information sign and the river marked by two large rocks.

The trail follows the river with several side trails leading directly to it.
